 Operador cinematográfico estadounidense. Iniciado com montador y ayudante de operador en 1929, fue revelado por Sternberg en THE DEVIL IS A WOMAN (1935), interviniendo luego en filmes como LAURA (1944) y ATRACO PERFECTO (1956) [The killing]. Trabajando en color destacaron sus películas con Boetticher y sobre todo PECKIMPAH: DUELO EN LA ALTA SIERRA (1962) [Ride the hight country], GRUPO SALVAJE (1969) [The wild bunch] , LA HUIDA (1972) [The gateway] y RABBIT TEST (1978).
