 Operador norteamericano. Intervino en algunos films como actor antes de convertirse en fotógrafo. Inició sus actividades en esta especialidad hacia 1919, y empezó a trabajar como actor - jefe en "Sombras Blancas En Los Mares Del Sur" (White shadows in the South Seas, 1928), de William S. Van Dyke. En 1933 se trasladó a México para tomar parte en el rodaje de "¡Viva Villa!", film de Howard Hawks y Jack Conway; cautivado por el paisaje del país, decidió establecerse definitivamente en él. Se destacó por las imágenes preciocistas de "Janitzio" (1934), de Carlos Navarro, y "Vámonos Con Pancho Villa" (1935), de Fernando de Fuentes, que prefiguraban el estilo fotográfico de Gabriel Figueroa. Abandonó el cine para ejercer la profesión de fotógrafo, aunque luego dirigió la iluminación de numerosos films, entre ellos, parte de la serie protagonizada por Mario Moreno, Cantinflas.
